The NARA Innovation Award was created in 2010 to recognize a NARA member whose business has demonstrated an innovation that has made a positive impact in their business. Ideas, change, passion and trends are elements that drive innovation and advance the rehabilitation industry. The results of the innovation can be in renewal, change, and/or reinvention that aids in further growth of/in the industry. During the Fall 2015 Conference held in Las Vegas at The Westin Las Vegas, NARA presented the 2015 Innovation Award to Melissa Pietrantuono of Access Rehab Centers located in Waterbury, CT. Their innovation is titled "Home Based Outpatient Program" (HBO). The program provides for a therapist to visit the patient in their home setting to assess home safety and functional issues which cannot be easily addressed in the outpatient clinic setting. Access Rehab Centers is the largest outpatient therapy center in the Greater Waterbury area, offering physical, occupational, speech, and aquatic therapy.
